Gorgeous

Every time I leave my house to go to work, I see a gorgeous sunrise. I feel such peace living here. It’s beautiful around here in the mornings and evenings with the sunrises and sunsets. The animals are all happy and healthy. I cannot explain how peaceful it is here. I am loving it.

Kisses for Noma

Oh we have some progress with Noma. I was out feeding and had a bucket of feed in my arms. She got tired of waiting for me to pour it out so she just started eating out of what was in my arms. As she did this, I leaned down and kissed her nose several times and she did not try to get away. I started petting on her neck and she stayed there. I know it was because of the food, but this is a huge thing for her. She has not wanted attention of any kind. I feel like this is huge. It shows hard work pays off.

Coyotes

The temps are getting cooler at night and I have started hearing coyotes. I do not like to hear those sounds. I know they are around here and they need to eat also, but I do not like to hear them so close. As I was driving to work, I saw one just crossing the street. Out here it does not matter what time of day it is, they can be out and about. Luckily, we have only seen one out here. I think the donkeys braying keep them out of here.

Pigs and Straw

I did something I do not normally do. I took a bale of straw down to the pig pen and instead of me spreading it out for them, I let them do it themselves. I have to say, they may have done a better job than I do. They spread that straw out perfectly. I was so proud of them. I guess that brings my work down a little bit.

Stray Dog

I am learning so much about the overpopulation of domesticated animals since I have an animal sanctuary with farm animals. It is a sad reality we live in today. It is overwhelming for us animal lovers. Just a few days ago, I was with a woman during a dog rescue. The dog was running down the road in the middle of a festival attempting to get food from them. The animal was starving. This woman has been trying to find the owners, but no one came forward. She did end up taking the dog home, but her dogs did not do well with the new one. She was forced to take the puppy to the shelter after calling other places, but all of the resources the other places have were full. Once she was at the shelter, she was informed the dog had five days and would be euthanized due to having no available room. This is a problem. This is in Texas. It is important to spay and neuter your dogs and cats. That poor puppy does not deserve the fate she is about to receive, but because there are no resources for stray and unwanted animals, she will die. She will pay the price for irresponsible pet owners. It breaks my heart because I am such an animal lover. I would love to take her, but I have eighty animals of my own. I am not giving up, we are searching for a home.

Farrier

I may have forgotten to mention this. We finally got us a farrier that shows up and does a great job. We were on a schedule which was going to be amazing. Well, I had not heard from him and it was time for him to come back. I texted him about an appointment. He had to tell me he had broken his arm and was out of commission for a while. I sure hope he isn’t out too long. I know that is selfish, but I also know it is so hard to find another one out here.

Smart Goats

I forgot to post this a while back. Ronnie had put the donkeys in the barn for the farrier to be able to trim them. When he got home for when the farrier was going to be there, the donkeys were not in the barn anymore. The goats are smart. They figured out how to get one of the gates opened and let all the donkeys out. I find that so funny. I am sure it was Hercules. He is known for that.
