Storms Again

There was a hurricane or something and it was bringing storms to Texas. There was a week of rain. I mean, I am grateful for the rain. It cooled off the weather and it turned the grass green. The animals are loving it. I am liking the cooler weather. Ronnie is not liking having to mow. Normally you don’t have to mow this much, but this year is different. When it rains here, it pours like crazy out of no where.

Arkansas Weekend

Ronnie and I did go to Arkansas. We got to see friends and family. The time is never long enough and that drive is long. It was worth it. I am glad to be home though. The cats were mad when I brought out the suitcase but they were sure happy to see us come home.

Nervous

Ronnie and I were going out of town and I was nervous about Tina overheating while we were gone since she did overheat not long ago. When Ronnie tried to get Tina out of the pen, she did not want to go. So, she would have to stay in the pen with the fan and the goats all weekend. I do think that is a good thing since there is a fan. Things do work out and I am so glad. That takes some stress off me.

Late

I was late letting Tina in the pen with Louie and Prada. I was afraid Tina would be in the pen with Bill, Tinkerbelle, and Cinderella. If I am too late, she normally will go over into that pen to sleep. She was actually not in the other pen, she was up against the pen with the goats on the other side of the fence. They were all together, just with the fence in between them. It was sweet to see. I hurried up and let her in where she went right into the shelter to go to bed.

HOTT

It is HOTT outside. The animals are all trying to hang in there, but it is so miserable. I am miserable, so I know they are, too. There is not much else going on around here but trying to keep everyone cool in this heat. It is too hot out for me to want to hang out with the animals.

Louie

Louie is growing up so fast. He is learning new tricks and is jumping around all the time. he is growing his horns and they sure do hurt. It is incredible how fast he is growing. It is like he is taller everyday. I sure am enjoying watching him grow up.

The Odd Trio

The odd trio is still the odd trio. Prada and Louie got out of the gate as I was trying to get Tina in the pen like she wants every night. She finally went in and the goats got out. It took a forever for me to get the goats back in, but I finally did. I love that they love each other so much. I wish I had a YouTube channel for the Odd Trio. You guys would love it just like I do.

Pools

Ronnie bought pools to put around everywhere since Tina Turken about overheated not long ago. He was able to set up a little spa area for the chickens and they love it. They can stay cooler in the shade and get a drink of water right there, too. It is the best spot for them.

Sick Turken

My sick Turken has turned a corner and is doing better. She seems to be more herself. She is eating and drinking again. She is still moving slowly and staying away from the others, but she does seem better. I have been giving them all some stuff to help them with the heat and getting rid of the worms if they have any or whatever. The stuff goes right into their food and it must be working.

Ironic

I went out late to check on Tina and the goats. I don’t really know why because I knew they were fine. I found them asleep, but the way they were asleep was so ironic. I was shocked. The three of them were all asleep in a line. Tina, Prada, and then Louie and it was the sweetest sight to see. I went back into the shadows so I would not wake them up. I cannot get over their relationship. It is so odd, but I love to watch it.

Wet

Everything was wet when I went outside to feed the animals. It must have rained all night long. The animals were all doing fine though. Tina was happy with Louie and Prada. Even the pigs were wet and their pond was full of water. At least we are getting some rain in July because it is going to be a hot summer without it. I am glad the animals are doing well. The storm was so bad, it messed up some fencing I had to fix since Ronnie is out of town.  Luckily I had a friend come over and she helped me out with it.

Storms

It has not rained here in a while. The storm came out of no where tonight. There is lots of thunder and lightning. I have been out twice to check on Louie. He is not liking the storms with the sounds. Poor little guy is scared. I am glad they have shelter. I hope they do not get too wet in the shelter, Ronnie had to take off some of the shelter because it was too hot in there. I had to run out in the rain twice to take care of the fan. I thought it might sprinkle, but no, it was a big thunderstorm.

That Was A Close One

I had already lost Raven and one of the turkens is not well. I round the corner to feed the chickens like usual and Tina Turken is overheating. She is already in the stage of unable to stand up. I drop everything I am doing and turn the water hose on her. I get her good and drenched. I picked her up and held her for a little bit because I really did not think she was going to make it, so I wanted her last moments to be filled with love. I put her back down in the water and continued to get the water good into the feathers and on her neck and all over her. I was just trying to cool her off. Her skin was so red. I knew she was too hot. She did start to cool off. I knew she was cooling off because her skin color started changing. She finally got tired of me messing with her, so she was strong enough and got up and walked away. I was so happy to see that. She was still weak, but she made it to the sheep and goat pen. She sat back down. I came back by a little while later and put more water on her. Then she went over into another corner. I moved her to a cooler place. I then decided to go ahead and put her in with Prada and. Louie in front of the fan. That did the trick. Tina cooled off quickly after that and got up and started moving around. Louie was happy to see her. I am so glad she is okay. That would have been devastating for so many reasons. Louie had to make sure she was okay, too. She will be staying with the goats at least the rest of the evening. She may stay there the next few days because of the fan situation. I do not want to do that again. She might hate that though. We will see.

The Coop Turken

The one turken I have been concerned about is hanging in there. I did pour some water out on the ground for them. They all went for that water to sit in and cool off. It is a hot one. The one I am concerned about is still having the same symptoms, but maybe if she cools down she will be feeling better. I gave them fresh cold water, so that should help. I am ready for summer to be over already. This is awful. They are hanging in though.

Raven

We lost Raven today. I found her overheating in the shop. I got her out of there as fast as I could to try to save her by cooling her down, but I was too late. She died while I was trying to cool her off. I hate this part. Today was a hot day. Not as hot as some of the days I have seen, but it was a hot one. I am so sad about it. We have lost a lot of chickens this year, most from the coyote, but some from other things. It hurts every time.

Road Runner

There has been a road runner hanging around. I have seen it several times lately. Today it saw me and started running off. I guess I scared it off and it ran up the tree. I have never seen one in the tree, but it sure stayed there so I would leave it alone. I saw it come down later and look back to see where I was. I had to laugh at that.

Never Know

You never know what is going to happen around here. As I was going down to feed the pigs, I saw out of the corner of my eye, something crawling out of the hay bale. Well, it was a hen. I was not surprised, but it goes to show, there is never a dull moment around here.

Fireworks

I did hang out outside waiting for the fireworks. I am not a big fireworks fan for multiple reasons that I will not get into right now. I did finally get to see a few from the town I live in. Happy Birthday, America.
