Never a Dull Moment

There is never a dull moment around here. The donkeys need hay and they almost attacked me to get to the feed I had in my hand. I ended up having to dump out some feed for them. Even Noma was chasing me, which never happens. That was such a crazy moment, one I would not want to repeat for sure. That was a little scary. I know they were not trying to hurt me, they just wanted food.

Baby Turken

The baby Turken is growing up. She is able to get up in the laying boxes. I am not sure how that happens, but I saw it with my own two eyes. I wish I had seen how she got up there. I am also hoping it is a she. They sure do grow up fast. I am glad she has made it this far. She is still going in and out of the fence often which makes me crazy.

Sick Chicken

We Have another sick chicken thanks to the weather. I mean, there is not much I can do about that. That poor chicken is wheezing so loud I can hear it without being close. I know that chicken is miserable. I am sure she will be okay. I will go get her some meds. You know, when you have a full plate of things going on, it just seems more gets piled on, but things must be handled.

Rain

We have had some rain coming in. It has been cold rain since it is the end of October. We sure need it, but it is cold to be out in it. The animals all have shelters for this very reason and I am grateful for it. I have been feeding the goats in their shelters. They are spoiled. Ronnie is in the hospital at this moment, so I am getting it done as best as I can. Life sure can give you some twists and turns you would not expect, but life keeps moving on and you have to keep moving with it.

Losing it

I have lost 2 chickens this week and have no idea what happened to them and I don’t like to think about it. Well, I went out to lock up the coop and saw two more were missing. My heart dropped. I had seen them when I fed in the evening. So, I started searching for them. I’m not sure if this is another full moon thing, but they were roosting somewhere else and were totally fine. One of them was in a weird spot alone on top of the goat shelter, but she was fine. I thought I was about to lose my mind.

Full Moon Craziness

Full moon antics are always funny. Onyx was up in a tree and looking like she was stuck, but she wasn’t. The baby turken chick is feral and just runs around like crazy in and out of the fence. The bigger chick in the shop tries to escape. Noma was trying to let the pigs out. Yeller was mad at Ursula for being outside and was trying to fight with her. Prada was bullying Tinkerbelle. One of the chickens was hiding up on a shelf behind the charcoal which is just so weird. Every full moon there is weird stuff like this going on.

Cold Front

It Is the end of October and it is getting cold. I could see the clouds and the cold front coming in. It is just crazy to see when things are changing. You can feel it in the air. Change is inevitable, might as well welcome it.

Tinkerbelle/Prada

I knew Prada was bullying Tinkerbelle, but I had no idea how bad it was. There was a gate that kept getting opened and I could not figure out why. I finally saw what was going on. Tinkerbelle was wedging herself behind that gate and stay there so Prada could not get to her. I came home one evening and Prada was banging on that gate to try to get to Tinkerbelle. It was awful to watch. We will be getting Tinkerbelle out of there as soon as we get Louie fixed. Poor Tinkerbelle.

Frog Rescue

I found a frog slowly hopping around. I was shocked with the weather getting colder. I caught the frog and he was so cold to the touch. It is about time for it to go hibernate somewhere for sure. I rescued it from the cats or the chickens one. I put him somewhere else to get away from them before it was too late. I hope it worked.

Sad News

I have sad news. I came home and one of the baby turkens was missing. Those babies would run around in and out of the fence and do whatever they want. They were pretty feral. I thought something must have gotten one of them. Well, I did find the baby and the baby was deceased. I was so heartbroken. I was hoping both of them would make it since there were only two of them. I am just so sad over the whole thing. This is the worst part about hatching babies. We can try again another time. So far the other one is doing okay.

Turkens

Well, I got a shock. The weather is changing since it is that time of year. I noticed the turkens are actually growing feathers on their necks now. They look funnier than they did before when their necks were naked. They sure make my heart happy though. They look funny anyway you look at them, but right now, they are a little extra funny looking. I just love them.

Makeshift Feather Hen

I did put the makeshift feather hen together for the babies. They did use it for what it was meant for, for a minute and then they did not use it that way anymore. All 3 of the babies are using the feathers for whatever they want though, so it was not a waste of time which makes me feel better.

Cold

It got cold and I got to see Wednesday with one of her chicks with just the beak sticking out. It was a cute little sight. I know those little chicks are cold, but they are handling it as well as they can. They are going to be tough little chicks.

Chicks in the Shop

The Chicks in the shop are doing well. They are growing up so fast. It blows my mind how fast they grow. I am pretty sure one of them is going to be a rooster, I could be wrong, but I do not think I am. I am glad they are growing up. I am wondering what I am going to do with them when they are too big to be where they are right now. That will be interesting.

Best Photo

I may have taken the best photo I have ever taken. It was a stormy day. I saw the rainbow coming out while it was still storming. I got a photo of the rainbow with lightning in the middle. I also got a photo of the clouds going through the rainbow. It was so beautiful.

Can I Catch A Break?

Day 4 of Ronnie being gone. It got cold. I mean, way colder than I thought it would. I was not prepared for that. I did not prepare for winter in October. So, this morning, I was late for work because I was checking on everyone with the cold. All was well. I had to go to the store, so I was late coming home, which is pretty normal these days. It was getting dark when I got to get home to feed. Another chick hatched and died because of the cold. That is so devastating. I took all the eggs out of there. I cannot do that anymore. The other remaining chicks are all doing fine. As I was feeding, Louie and Bill decided to sandwich me in trying to get out of the gate. I am not sure how I stayed on my feet, but I know it hurt pretty badly, that will be causing some bruising for sure. I added some warmth to some areas for the chickens and the cats. I also remembered to turn the fans off. It is going to be colder tonight. I am going to have a hard time sleeping being worried about those baby chicks.

And Another One

I needed to be at work early, but it was still raining a bit when I went out to feed. I was instantly not in a good mood. I am almost finished with putting out hay and I am putting it in the shelters for the goats and Bill since they are so spoiled and they will not eat wet hay. Well, You know the saying, no good deed goes unpunished, Louie decided he was running away today. He sure tried. Reminder here, if you don’t know, I am getting old and have Right hip bursitis right now, so wrangling that goat this morning was a challenge. I got him back in the pen though. I made it to work a little early, but not enough. I had to leave early from work to go to a dr appointment out of town, it was like a tsunami coming through all the way to Texas. It was not good. I was like a drowned rat when I got back to my car after the appointment. My feet being wet is like my biggest pet peeve. It hurts me all the way to my soul I hate it so much. I finally get home after driving  through the junk I had already driven through once and learn my newest baby chick had died. I took care of all of that and then decided to go ahead and dr the chickens that are sick. Well, one of them decided to be slick and go through the small opening so I couldn’t get to her to dr her. Well, I just crawled through it. Probably not my proudest moment and I’m pretty glad no one was videoing that, but I got it done. The cat is off her antibiotics and doing better it seems. The baby chicks I had taken from mom are all doing well. Everyone get fed and they had plenty of water.
