So, at this point we have 3 goats, 1 donkey, 2 pigs, 3 dogs and 2 cats. Wow, for someone that was raised in the city, I cannot tell you how overwhelming this is at the beginning. The goats and donkey needed a shelter and the pigs are still curled up in the straw and not friendly. As the days go one, I get out in the 2 different pens daily. Feed them daily, watering them. I just got attached to them very quickly. But, guys, this is work... just the feeding and the watering but then you have to work them and put stuff in their ear for bugs and all kinds of stuff. I had no idea. Now we get to the good part.. it’s not good really, but it’s part of the story anyway. One of the pigs is sick, skin looks like it’s rotting off and she is wheezing... ummm.... what do I do??? Well, I thought maybe she was dirty, so let’s give her a bath. That made her skin worse!!!! It literally starts opening up and looking terrible!!! Not to mention, I’m breaking out in a rash. What in the world is happening here. I take her to the vet the next day and the vet wouldn’t even touch her. He just gave me an antibiotic for the pneumonia... yes I said pneumonia. Have you ever tried to give an unsociable pig a pill form of an antibiotic?? I hadn’t even had the thought to do so, well, you will get bit. They are very very smart and know if you put something in their food. She would just spit it right out. I finally had to shove it down her throat and hope she didn’t bite my hand off. It was brutal.  Well, she wasn’t better days later, so I put her back in the cat crate and took her to another vet. He takes one look at her and says, so you know she has sarcoptic mange... I said ummm... no... he says, you better be careful, that’s contagious to humans. So, he gave her a shot and gave us injections to give her for the next few days. That in itself was pure chaos. She isn’t socialized and she scream and screamed. Took my husband and me both. Whew... that was something. Until next time...

So, as I was saying the donkey needed friends, so my husband knew a guy that owned a farm and raised goats. The donkey was also raised with goats, so win win situation. We went to pick up the goats. As we were waiting on the goats, I spot 2 very small pigs and mentioned how cute they were... my husband said no, absolutely not. Well, I continued about how cute they were. So, he leans over and says, if you can catch them, you can have them. Challenge excepted. I’m a city girl, what was I thinking. Oh, that won’t be hard. Ok, yeah right. Those things are so fast. But, I managed to catch one and the lady that owned them caught the other one. Anyone ever been around pigs... ummm.... they scream. Like blood curdling scream. Honestly, I had no idea. I was laughing so hard I almost could have peed my pants, I didn’t though. So we stick them in the trailer with the goats and come home. Well, the goats were great, they got out f the trailer and right in with the donkey. They were fast friends. The pigs on the other hand, I had to catch them again. One at a time was super hard. The job was done though.  Those pigs curled up in the straw from the stress and just stayed there. For days...

So, my husband and I bought property in the country, not a huge portion, but big enough for us... little did I know that less than a year later, we have animals... not the cows I thought we would have, other animals. This is how it started... So, I knew this lady that cornered me one day. She said, hey, would you like a donkey. In my head I’m saying, why would I want a donkey. My mouth says, let me talk to my husband. Next thing I know, he meets up with her and agreed to take the donkey, a miniature one at that. I’m thinking, hmmmm.... how is this going to work. Next thing i knew, somehow I’m outside with him, building fences... yes, I said building fences... what in the world. It’s 20 degrees out, snowing and I’m freezing... It happened though, the fence was built. Now this is where it gets good so donkeys are social animals and need to have friends. Ummm... what??? So he needed a friend... that is why the lady gave us the donkey, his friend had passed away. He is the sweetest thing, too. So loving and affection. He just needed a friend. So, what happens, we get friends!!!! Next time I will tell you that story. The ending to this story is that the donkey had never been in a trailer. He tried to take off out the gate where his pen was, but we caught him, took 3 people to get him in the trailer, ever thought of a 300 pound animal not wanting to do something and having to make them do it, that’s a workout I tell you!!! We get him to his new home and he flies out of that gate so fast I was glad everything was blocked and he only had 1 place to go. Goodness!!! He is really loved and he does love his new home...now. Until next time!!!

Hello out there!!! I am new to this, but I want to share my stories. I was raised in the city and now I am a farm girl. It truly has been a transition for me. I don’t like to work hard at home or to get dirty or sweat... I mean, yuck!!! But, here I am dragging water to animals and watering the garden and cleaning out pig pens and oh my goodness, it never ends. Not to mention the attention these animals want and I really don’t have that many. I do have enough to keep me hoping and getting close to those 10,000 steps a day people talk about. Whew, I’m tired thinking about it. Anyway. Let’s juat say that this has been a wild ride and I’m not ready to get off of it just yet... well not at the moment, if I had been asked a few minutes ago, I might have had a different answer. So, there is my introduction. I will start posting funny stories from this crazy farm that I actually love.
