Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

None of the chickens we have had up until now have tried to cross the road. I don’t know why, they get close to the road. We live on a busy road though, so maybe they were too smart to cross the road. We have some braver chickens now. I saw one with his head up on the other side of the road and walked over and saw four more. My best guess as to why the chicken crossed the road would be to find some different food and possibly a new home. They did come back. I saw them in their roosting spot that same night.
