EDITH

Edith wanted out of the coop and she ran out. When I put Abigail in the coop, Edith gets furious. She did not like that someone was in her spot. She still went in there often and now she couldn’t do that. Oh she was mad. She was running around and squawking. She did not like this new arrangement. I think that stressed Abigail out and she wanted out. Against my better judgement, I let Abigail out. She is doing fine. There is no problem with that. Edith did go in the coop after that but did not stay. I mean, come on Edith. She needs to make up my mind on what we are doing. She continues to be tortured by the roosters. I feel terrible for her. 

Another Update on Abigail

So day four on Abigail not feeling well. I went in the coop and her mouth was closed. The mystery must have been solved. She does look to have a little damage to the side of her beak now that her mouth was closed. She had eaten everything I gave her and was drinking on her own. She was pacing the fence line wanting out. She had laid an egg which I let her eat and she loved. She seemed to be on the mend. That always makes me happy when a sick animal gets to feeling better. 

Daisy the Water Baby

Daisy has always been a water baby. She loves to be in the water. We need to get her a pool. Every day when I fill up their water bowl outside. She tries to shrink enough to get in there. It does not work. The only thing she can get in there is her front legs and head. She is a funny dog. 

Fred’s Voice

Little Fred has found his voice. His voice still is weak but he is definitely trying. He is a funny little rooster. He is growing fast. He is still trying to figure stuff out. I’m not sure how long it will take for him to be full grown. He is getting there though. He is trying hard to get his little voice across to everyone. It still has crackles in it but it won’t be long until he figures that out. 

Poor Abigail

I went home to check on my sick chicken. This is day three of her not being well. I found her in the barn. She was too weak to run far from me. I picked her up and took her to the chicken coop and locked the door. I went back in the house and got a syringe. I got a little wormer. I filled up a container of food and water. I went over and picked her up and started using a syringe to get water down her. I knew she had to be miserable. I got quite a bit of water down her. She got agitated and I put her down. When I came back, she was in the laying box and so I grabbed some food and started hand feeding her. She was able to eat. She jumped down and started eating and drinking on her own and her mouth was closed. That’s encouraging. Here’s to hoping she is okay. 

Saying Hey to Big Brother

I look out and see Mattie up by the fence. I then watch Pete come over and start giving him attention. I do not know if they actually know they are brothers or not but it’s cute to me that they interact as much as they do. Mattie is so friendly and wants to be friends with all the animals here. 

Best of Friends

I have noticed lately that Mattie is following Cracker Jack around often. Cracker Jack was nervous and probably a little jealous when Mattie was born. To top all of this off, Noma was protective for a while also. Now, Mattie is following Cracker Jack all over the place. They seem to be the best of friends. It’s really cute to see that. I know Noma is exhausted so it’s nice Mattie has someone to play with. They are really cute together.
