Break Through
I worried so much last night about Noma. I pull in the driveway from work and she is laying down. If you saw her hooves and the way she has to walk, you would understand her laying down so much. I get it but I do panic when she can’t get up. Anyway. Noma is really skinny. She has put on some weight since she came here but she is still skinny. Cracker Jack and all the goats were on the back side of the property down by the pigs so I thought we could be smart and get them some feed so she could eat before they got back. Well, that was a no. Ronnie got the feed out and Kenzie went to feed them while I fed the pigs. Of course the rest of the herd runs to get some feed. We don’t give them much feed, but here lately we have because Noma needs it. Romeo still does also. Kenzie poured out some feed in the trough and Ronnie put more out in a different spot for the goats since they wouldn’t eat out of the trough. Kenzie stood there and was able to feed Noma out of the bucket. She was even able to pet Pete for a second. When the bucket was gone, I was feed Cracker Jack and the goats some stuff and she came over like we had been friends forever and just started eating out of that bucket also. She wouldn’t share with Pete who started biting at her and then was trying to nurse. She tried to kick him to get him away from her. I do think things are falling into place. They are warming up and doing well here. I’m grateful for that. They both deserve to be happy.
Noma and Pete update
Last night I was nervous about Noma. She was really struggling and could not get up. Pete came over and tried to get her up, I tried to get her up, the goats were all around her and she wouldn’t get up. I was nervous. That’s me though, I think the worst, probably so I guard my heart a little. Ronnie told me to relax that she was fine, just tired. She would still hold her ears up when I went over to the fence and said her name. He said she would get up after she rested some. I went out to check on her late last night and sure enough, she was up. I couldn’t find her since she wasn’t in the lean to or the barn, but she was up and about which made me happy. She was up this morning when I went out to feed and she let me pet her while she was standing up which she does not usually do. This girl deserves the happiness she is now living. I want her to enjoy it for a long time. I need to learn to not panic...
Smarty Pants
The mornings are cold around here. I don’t necessarily love it but it will be hot soon enough so I need to enjoy it. Over the weekend, with all the snow, of course the animals’ water was frozen. I watched the pigs as they were being fed. The water was frozen but they are smart. Brutus just put both of his legs on the ice knowing it would break so he could get a drink of water. As soon as he ran off, Pork chop did the same thing on the other side of the same water bowl where the ice wasn’t broken yet. It still amazes me how smart these animals are.

Oh Noma
Noma is getting more friendly. She got close to Ronnie today and she let Kenzie pet her. That is some progress. She seems to be feeling more at home. I even got to pet Pete two different times today... only for a second though. He still isn’t too sure. Noma was up most of the day today. This evening I went out and she was laying down. She tried to get up several times and couldn’t. I brought out food and she still couldn’t get up so I let her eat from the bucket. Pete tried to get her up also but she couldn’t. So, Kenzie and I sat with her for awhile just petting her and living on her. She even played with me a bit. I would pet under her chin, I know she doesn’t particularly like that and she would attempt to nibble on me. She wouldn’t of course but she seemed to enjoy the attention. I am hoping and praying she is just tired and can’t get up because of that. I’m praying she is up in the morning. She deserves to live happily for more time.
First Visit of 2021
Kenzie got to come visit this weekend. She had never met any of the farm animals. She was finally able to come out and hand out with them. She helped feed and look for eggs. She was able to pet some of the pigs and the goats and a donkey or two. I think she has enjoyed being here with the animals. I know I have enjoyed it. It’s nice to see new people come and meet the animals. The animals love visitors. I think they get tired of just me and Ronnie.

George the Rooster
Last night I was sending some pics to a friend of mine of the animals and the snow. I sent her a picture of George the rooster who was under an awning but the back of the shop. He hangs out there a lot so I didn’t think much of it. I just figured he would go back into the spot where all of the other chickens were. I didn’t think much of it. When I got home I let the dogs out to run out some energy while I did some laundry and little things around the house. The dogs were back by the chickens so I made them come in. Kenzie is here this weekend and her and I went around looking at all the animals. George was still in the same spot. I still did not clue into anything. A few minutes later Kenzie and Ronnie has an errand to run and so I went out to feed. Let me stop here and remind you who George is. He is my rooster who is blind in one eye. He has spurs on him that are huge. I’m careful around him. So I start looking and it finally clicks that George is terrified and has probably been stuck in that spot since it started snowing. Luckily it’s behind the shop and the awning is positioned out of the wind and there was no accumulation of snow under there. The dogs had been over there because their paw prints were there. George did not want to get his feet wet. I got him out of there but he took 5 small steps into the snow and ran back under there. Poor guy. I felt so terrible not realizing he was trapped under there. I found a board to get him out of there and kind of just guided him with the board to get him with the rest of his people. He walked on the edge of the snow for as long as he could. He even tried to run back under the awning but couldn’t because I was in the way. He just over the fence into another dry spot but was face to face with Daisy and Bella. George is the rooster Daisy tried to kill a while back. I got to him before he jumped over that gate and into the dog pen. He finally gave up and ran in the snow to where his friends were. I feel so bad I didn’t realize what was happening. I know he got fed under there because he really does hang out there a lot. At least tonight he will be more comfortable. I will watch closer next time.
Welcome 2021
I want to reflect back for just a minute on 2020. I know 2020 has been hard on everyone. It has not been a fun year. I’m working on my positivity lately and when I look back on 2020, it was rough but it wasn’t terrible. I have accomplished so much in 2020. I have learned so much in 2020. It’s been a hard year, but I’m being grateful for it. There is so much I could say about 2020, but I won’t. I’m looking forward to 2021 and all it brings. I know good things are on the horizon here in Texas and I can’t wait to see things come together. I hope everyone had a great New Year’s Day and will be blessed and well during 2021. We did eat our black eyed peas just in case though.
