4/20/24

Today was all about family and celebrating my grandparents 70th wedding anniversary. It was a nice time. The family who could make it were all there and it was nice to see everyone. The visits are never long enough,  but a small visit is better than no visit. I did get updates on the animals and they are all doing well. 

4/19/24

Things are going well on the farm. Ronnie and I are leaving for a couple of days and that is so hard on me. I know all the animals will be fine. I have some good friends helping us out. It still makes me nervous, but we will have a good time. 

Once we made in to our destination, we had dinner with some good friends. After that, we were exhausted. 

4/18/24

It was a hot day. The donkeys were over in the pasture just grazing away. They do not mind the heat. 

The sheep were ready for food. They were standing on the gate. 

Looks like Sonny was in a fight with another rooster, but I do not know which one. Sonny looks rough.

Funny story, I found Jelly literally laying on eggs. I could not believe my eyes. I had to get Ronnie to look at that. He could not believe it. 

The family of donkeys is doing well. They stay pretty close together at all times. I do think Noma is grateful for a reprieve from Willow and Mattie giving her a hard time. 

Alex was happy to give me some attention, Jasper though, not so much. 

You know, when I look out into the pasture, when I see Mattie, he looks so much like Red that I have to do a double take. 

The donkeys and goats came in from the pasture. I always love to see that. They did come over and gave me some attention today. 

I finally got a picture with what looks like the majority of the chickens. It sure looked like most of them anyway. 

I did see Hercules using Pete as a balance beam to get a limb he was trying to get. I laughed so hard. 

The horses got a new hay bale and they all looked happy. 

On another note, my grandparents have been married for 70 years today. That is a long time. I am so grateful I still have them in my life. 

4/17/24

Ernestine allowed me to take eggs from the crate she was in without running out and squawking. She was not happy about it, but she did not act like she normally does. She must be getting used to me. 

Athena was hanging out with the chickens until they got too close to her and she decided to go somewhere else. 

I noticed a couple of our ‘twin’ chickens were wondering around together. They are such pretty chickens.

Chief’s bowl gets moved up out of the way. As I was going toward him with his food, he tried to move the bowl down toward me. He did not make it all the way and I was able to get it down to be able to put the food in it for him. It was nice of him to try to move the bowl for me. 

I got to watch the ground squirrels running around the pasture. They are so cute and fun to watch. 

The cows got a new hay bale. I missed the fun in that, but I know they had to be excited about it. 

The sheep were watching every thing going on around them like they normally do. Nothing new there. 

I had not seen Jelly in a day or two. I was happy to get to see him this evening. I was able to pet him and Yeller. 

I saw something today that warmed my heart and made me sad at the same time. I have 3 animals who are all the same age and none of them are doing real well. They are all declining quickly. I know Bubba has been hanging out with Pepper and Maggie lately. I saw the 3 of them cuddled together in the laundry room. I know the time is coming when I will not have any of the 3. They have loved and been friends for 14 years. It was nice to see them spending some time together. 

Bubba wanted to be up in my way while I was trying to do my paperwork and things I needed to do. I had to stop and give him some attention. 

4/16/24

As I was leaving for work, I looked over and saw the donkeys and the goats grazing about and minding their own business. I know I say this a lot, but when I look out at them and see them living their life, it makes me emotional sometimes. Each one of them could have had a very different outcome in life. They deserve the life they are living. 

I watched Maggie visiting Persia’s grave. I find that interesting. I cannot actually know if she was visiting the grave, but it did look like that. 

Jeb must still be acting like a jerk. I did not see anything, but Chief and the rest of the horses were in a different area away from Jeb which gave me a clue. 

The goats came in to get a drink of water while the donkeys were out in the pasture. They must have been thirsty and tired. 

As I was going in the house to get something, Ronnie asked me what I was yelling about. I was confused since I was not yelling or talking at all. Ronnie then started laughing and realized it was the hen in the shop making up a fuss. He said, she sounded just like you do. I may have to work on that. 

I opened the door to the bedroom to let Ursula out and she refused to leave the bedroom. I wish I knew what was going on in her mind. 

It was another beautiful evening. 

4/15/24

I got home this evening and the donkeys were all close to the house, except for Red. I found that weird. Red was still in the pasture. He was fine though. The other donkeys do not normally go anywhere without all of them together. 

Ernestine was giving me such an evil eye. She has not got used to me yet trying to grab the eggs and she has a fit every single time. She will get over that eventually, I hope, but so far that has not happened. 

When I got home, there looked to be a storm coming in, it never did rain, but it sure was looking like it was going to. 

Lola was giving the cats the eye. I don’t know why. The cats do not bother her. She was trying to get off the fence and did not want to fly down on top of them. 

Pepper seems to be getting slower. She seems to be giving up. My poor old girl. She has lived a long and good life. I am not going to make any decisions yet, but she is not doing too well. The decline started a while back, but it seems to be continuing. 

I watched the donkeys and goats going back into the pasture to be with Red. These guys are loyal to each other and they normally stay together. 

The sheep were staying close to the sick hen. The whole thing makes me sad. 

I learned something new today. I did not know hens would fight like roosters, but apparently they do. I watched Susie Q fighting with another hen. I even saw Rojo trying to get in between them. What a sight. They all walked away fine. 

The dogs were watching my every move. They were ready to get in the house and out of the heat. I was ready to get inside in case the storm hit. 

The donkey family is still doing well. I cannot express how happy that makes me. 

The animals were all eating in their spots tonight without difficulty. 

I saw Snowflake crawling in the goat shelter and giving herself a dust bath. I guess that is her new spot. 

I watched Saverine in the pasture. She is such a beauty of a horse. I am grateful she is here and is living out her life here. 

The pigs are all doing fine. Patsy is back to her normal self. I am glad she is doing better. I am guessing it was the weather that messed her up. 

My chicken is not doing well at all. There is nothing I can do for her which makes things so much worse. I bet she does not have long left. I hate this part so much. I was able to give her some extra cuddles tonight. 

I gave the sheep some extra time and attention also. They are so cute and cuddly. One of them, I am thinking Ted was watching his chicken friends outside the fence. 

Willow and Mattie were irritating the horses while they ate. The horses let them know they did not appreciate it. 

The cows did something I had not seen before. they would moo and then look over to me and then moo again and then look at me. I felt like they were trying to tell me something. I did not know what it was. There was nothing out there.
