That was Scary

I was out in the shop again on another evening getting ready to feed the animals. I was reaching down into the bag of cat feed to give them more food. I think the barn chickens are eating the cat food. As I reached down, Edith had been sitting behind the cat food food and I did not see her. She went to squeaking and trying to fly around and making it chaos. She scared me to death. It was funny after my brain registered what was happening around me. That Edith is a mess. She literally scared me. Don’t forget to laugh at yourself once in awhile, things are not always serious.

Attack Cat

I was out in the shop the other evening and I was hanging out with the cats. I never know what they are going to do. Cats are funny little creatures, and these three need their own comedy show. They are hilarious. As I was in the shop, Earl jumped out and scared Peanut Butter went to attack and when he realized it was Earl he calmed down. I had never seen one of those cats go from calm to wanting to attack that fast. I’m still laughing about it. Be slow to anger.

Huh??

If you remember, last year during the ice storm, Lucky was really sick. Ronnie and I worked hard at keeping him alive. He was not friendly before that and he is not friendly now but he was a cuddly goat while he was sick. One day I was up by the gate and Lucky came right up to me and let me pet him for a second. I don’t remember what I said to him, but it was something along the lines of, oh, I I love you, Lucky, blah, bag, blah. Ronnie was standing there and said well I don’t or something like that to get me going. About that time, Lucky looked at him and it sounded like he said huh and then walked away. Ronnie and I had a good laugh about it. It was so funny and perfectly timed. Yes, I know the goat did not say huh but his bleat sure sounded like it. Laughter is the best medicine.

Cold Out

The second day of January continued to be cold out. We worked at making sure all of the animals had proper bedding, extra food and water. That was our only goal for the day. We checked on them several times throughout the day. We made sure they were all okay. I do not like the cold, but they all seemed perfectly happy even with the cold. The pigs were cuddled into some straw most of the day. The rest of the animals were doing their normal routines. The horses were running around more. The cows were running around like crazy. They were enjoying the colder weather. Not me. I was cold. I guess everyone should decide to accept the things they can’t change and enjoy those moments like the animals do.

Seriously?!?!

It was the first day of the new year. What could go wrong?? Plenty of things, but I was working on not worrying and being more positive, until a certain moment. Ronnie and I were working hard and it was getting cold. I see something I was not expecting. I saw some trash next to the fence. It looked like it could have been some kind of donut wrapper made with plastic that you could get at a gas station. I was busy with unloading stuff and so was Ronnie. I then saw Red grab that wrapper and started eating it. I started running toward Red. I got through the gate and start running toward Red. Probably not the best idea to run into a group of donkeys that are all after the same thing. I was surrounded by them all and still out of reach of the wrapper. I had to get out of the way because the donkeys could feel my stress in that moment. Red ate the wrapper. It was gone. The vet was unavailable and my positive attitude was no where to be found. I was terrified he was going to end up with a blockage. We fed more hay due to the cold weather and hoping Red would eat enough to pass that wrapper. The stress was doing me no good. Stress hurts us. I needed to find a way to deal with this new stress I had. I started to pray about Red. Some may think I was stressing for no reason, but for me, this was a big deal. Being stressed did not help. Poor Red. I was nervous during this time. Red did not seem stressed or nervous, so why was I??

Togetherness

The first day of 2022 was a lot of togetherness. It turned cold and all of the animals had to be together. The pigs stayed close together. The donkeys stayed close together. So on and so forth. They got lots of love and attention from Ronnie and me also. They all decided to love each other today. It might end up being  short lived, that was still up in the air. It was sweet to watch though. They could all feel the weather changing and needed to be able to warm up next to each other. They all found their person. We need to find our people in life also. Be like these animals, find your circle.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! I know I’m behind, like really behind on posting about the ends and outs of the farm in 2022. New Year’s Day was a busy day with all the prep for the cold weather coming in that night. I had bought straw for the pigs. I had filled the goat’s shelter with extra hay they were not eating. Ronnie had went to go get extra hay for the animals so we could feed them more to help keep them warm. After he came back, he thought it would be beneficial to add pine shavings to the barn for the horses, the cow shelter and the lean to for our old donkeys. The donkeys and goats on the other side decided they would dig themselves holes to sleep in. That was pretty amazing. So, Ronnie went back to the store and ended up buying a pallet of pine shavings. We spent the rest of the day fixing shelters for the cold. We saw the clouds coming in and the wind pick up. I always worry about the animals in the cold. I want us and them to be as prepared as possible for the cold. Worry is not good for them or for me. Worry brings us down and does not help what we are needing to accomplish. Get rid of the worry. Prepare as you should and there is no need to worry. I have difficulty with this, I think most of us do.
