August 8

Of course it’s hot again today. We are making it through. It will be cool soon enough. I’m working on being positive.
Ronnie left the house before 5 am and didn’t get home until around 7 pm. I got home late and started working on feeding and watering the animals. It was brutally hot while completing this task. I made it though. I got it completed.

I watched a couple of chickens in the bushes and realized why all of our bushes are dead. Not only is it super hot, but the chickens have killed them all.

The cats continue to lay in front of the house to stay cool. They are funny. Athena was so hot and so badly did not want to move, she let me pet her. I was shocked.

The dogs are still only going outside to use the bathroom and eat. I feel so bad for them.

Willow is still trying to make friends with the little goats and the pigs. She is so cute.

Tinkerbelle and Cinderella are doing what they can to stay cool. They seem okay though.

The cows, along with Willow and Noma are staying in the shade most the time. They are doing well.

The little goats are doing well. They are fighting like brothers. They sure are cute.

The baby chicks are growing so fast. I know there are some roosters in there, but I’m not sure how many yet.

Rena and Annabeth don’t realize how well they have it in the coop. There is always a breeze going through there. Their water stays cool and they are protected. However, they still want out.

The donkeys and goats were staying cooler in the barn. They rarely do that. I knew they were hot when I saw that.

The horses are struggling. I’m struggling because they are struggling with this heat. They are okay, but they need a reprieve as much as we do.

Spots has a big cut on her leg. I’m afraid that happened when Chief was bullying her. I sprayed it out and she will be fine. It’s already healing.

Noma and Willow took over one of the cows’ tough, so the cow took their food tonight.

The pigs are all doing well and I’m so grateful for that. We keep those mud holes full for them.

Mattie is fine. He has embraced that he is in the pen, but it won’t be much longer.

The inside cats are cuddly as ever. They don’t ever have to go outside.

I got to see Jelly tonight. He is still coming home every night.

I sure missed my husband tonight. I’m grateful for when he is able to help and I don’t have to do all that alone. I can do it, but I normally don’t have to anymore.

August 7

It looked like rain this morning. It was cooler and was beautiful. The animals seemed to enjoy it. I think it did rain a little earlier but probably not much. Regardless, my prayers were answered and the temps are lower than predicted. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still hot, but 112 is not on the forecast anymore. I am thankful.

One of the baby chicks almost lost their life today. The chick was trying to eat Bella’s food. Needless to say, Bella did not like that and I cannot blame her.

The baby chicks like to sit in the run off water in the weeds. As long as they stay cool, it’s okay.

Willow is still following me and Ronnie around. She is so precious.

Chief is still alpha and he is rude to the others. He finished his food and then ran off the horses by kicking them and making them leave the trough. I’m sure there was not much left, but still.

Ronnie decided to give the horses coastal hay tonight instead of alfalfa. Let’s just say they were confused and were not happy. Jeb gave me a look like where’s the good stuff. The others followed that sentiment. They eventually got over it and ate it anyway.

Spots was pawing at the water. That girl is a mess.
Ronnie gave the cows some of the hay that was dropped. They were appreciative.

August 6

It’s 107 degrees outside. I am trying not to focus on it. While out feeding and watering, it was not terrible outside because of the wind. The breeze was so fabulous. We made it through feeding time.

The animals are all doing well. We do need some prayers this week as it will stay around 107 all week. That’s going to be hard on us all. We do take care of these animals, so we make sure the have water and fans and mud and shelter. It is hard to know what else we can do for them. We do what we know to do.

I did find something today that has broken my heart. I know Maggie and Pepper are declining faster than I want to see. Both of them at the same time and it is beyond difficult to handle. Today as I was petting Pepper I noticed a big lump on her side. It does not feel good. It is not causing her pain as she did not even flinch when I found it. It just proves to me that my time is more limited than I thought. It’s just so hard. I am not going to do anything about it because at her age, there is not much they can do. It just breaks my heart.

August 4

Another brutal hot summer day. Oh come on cool weather. We need a reprieve. It’s miserable. My husband has been so good this week at getting home and doing most of the feeding because he does not want me in the heat.

It’s so hot the cats and chickens are all laying in front of the house to feel the breeze and lay by the water bowl. I feel so awful for them. The temps are supposed to be even higher next week. I’m going to be praying that changes or at least the animals will be protected from it.

The animals are laying on the ground where the cool water has spilled over to stay cool. Y’all, that is so sad. I know there is nothing we can do about the weather, but this is so bad.

It’s so hot today, Maggie did not want to eat, but the chickens ate the rest of her food. I hate it for them. The dogs only come out for a few minutes at a time because of the heat.

August 3

It’s August, I should expect hot but I’m ready for like 90. That would be a cold wave for us. I could still see the moon when I left for work this morning. It was pretty. Things are looking so dry out here, we need rain badly.

I never noticed it until today, but around Mattie’s mouth is darker and almost looks like he has lipstick on. I laughed longer than I should have at that.

Ned and Pedro are now playing too rough. It took me a minute to see what I was seeing. It’s usually Red and Pedro and then Ned and Pete. Nope, tonight it was Ned and Pedro.

The pigs are all doing well with staying cool. I’m so happy about that. This summer has been brutal.

You can feel the heat just looking at pictures. So far, everyone is hanging in there. The cats aren’t the only ones skinny, the horses are also. It’s just so hot. I’ve been concerned but now Ronnie is concerned also. It’s that hot. We need rain so badly.

August 2

Another hot day. I was not feeling well at all. I had told Ronnie I was not feeling well. When I got home, he had already fed and watered all the animals for me so I wouldn’t suffer in the heat while I was not feeling well.
I did notice we may have a couple of roosters from the last clutch hatched here. I am grateful it’s not more.

The cats have been hanging out in the shade in the evenings to beat the heat. I don’t blame them. I wish I could do something more for them.

August 1

You guessed it, it’s another hot day. It really is miserable. I am hoping it cools off soon. I had to stop to get gas and I kept hearing a dog crying. I couldn’t find the dog. I finally spotted the dog and it was in a bag on the back of the owner’s motorcycle. How sweet, except it’s so hot.

I watched Willow trying to interacting with the pigs. She is really trying to be friends with the other animals. It’s kinda funny, but I remember Mattie doing the same thing. The pigs are not accepting of her.

I turned the water on for the pigs and apparently the hose was in the wrong spot, so there was water everywhere. They seemed happy about it.

Lester is looking so much better. It is looking like he will make it. That makes me happy.

I caught a few moments of watching Rojo with his flock. He is such a beautiful rooster.

Later I watched Willow running back and forth with the goats. It’s really cute. I’m not sure if she will accept them.

The donkeys all came in when it started to get dark. They sure are smart.

The horses were all on alert except for Jeb. I never saw anything but it looked like they were watching something. That’s a good way to freak me out.

I got to see the cats tonight. They are so skinny that it concerns me, but they were last year at this time also. It’s just too hot.
