October 30

Well it was super cold this morning, but it was beautiful outside. Noma was the only one brave enough to be eating outside the shelters in that pasture.

The reflection on the barn from the sun was a pretty sight to see.

The horses were enjoying their hay this morning. The scene was gorgeous. It did warm up a bit later.

Yeller is standing better, but he is not well yet. He was hiding out in the crate with Onyx today. They are cute. I know they are staying warm in there.

Tinkerbelle knocked down a board on the fence and has eaten a hole in the table in the shop. I cannot even be upset with her. It’s too funny.

Waldo and Buckwheat are still bullying Porky away from the food. He eats until it gets low and then they kick him away from the food. I tried to give him more today in another place but he would not eat it.

The sheep got some extra attention tonight. They are just the happiest little animals.

I tried to give Mattie some medicine tonight to relax him a bit to get the halter on, but it didn’t work. We will try again tomorrow. He is getting so big.

They are putting up more and more windmills up around here.

October 29

Winter is here for the next few days. Luckily we did do all the preparations for the animals yesterday. I know they are animals and they can survive in the cold but it makes me a nervous wreck. In reality, I may only have a few months out of the year when I’m not a nervous wreck. When it’s too hot or too cold, I can’t say I’m not at least concerned about the animals. That’s life here on the farm.

It has rained and been in the 30s all day today. That’s not exactly fun weather. All the animals seemed to be in their shelters today and did not want to come out. I did not want to come outside either, but I did to help feed them with Ronnie quickly between rain showers. We were able to get it done in record time.

Pepper and Maggie were both able to get up on their own. That has not happened in a while, but I was glad to see it. They were able to go down and up the stairs without help also. That’s amazing right there.

3 out of the 4 of the barn cats were all in one crate staying warm. I tried to get picture of all three together, but Onyx came out when I interrupted their nap.

The pasture goats were smart and stayed in the barn. I did not see the other donkeys, but they are made for this, so I know they are fine.

The horses had to be coaxed out of the barn to eat. I have not seen that before. They finally came out when Ronnie brought the food to the bowls.

The cows looked like they had been in the rain most of the day. Probably because they had while eating hay in the rain.

Willow, Noma, and Mattie were all fine. They stayed in shelters all day.

October 28

Most of the day was spent on a class. Oreo and Ursula kept me company through the class.

These younger chickens drive Maggie crazy trying to take her food. She does bark at them to get them away from her.

The cats are still stay close to Yeller. He has been out and about more today.

We still have a bunch of chickens around here. The egg production does not show it though.

The donkey and goats are enjoying the cooler weather. They have been hanging out in the pasture.

I stopped throwing the chicken feed over the gate to keep Noma and Willow out of it. Willow was not happy about that today. She stood at the fence staring at those chickens like she was jealous.

The donkeys like to watch over the fence. It’s almost like they are protecting the animals over the fence.

Jeb sure is a beautiful horse. He looked so majestic standing there eating today.

Chief ran off the horses from their feed trough this evening since Ronnie was putting out another hay bale. The other three are Jeb’s food since he was eating Chief’s food and then they all went toward the hay bale.

Chloe gets more to eat than any of the other chickens since she hangs out in the horse pasture. She eats what the horses drop.

Spots and Jeb have a sweet little relationship. They have become good friends lately.

Yeller is staying in the shop since the temperatures are dropping this evening.

I put out more straw for all the pigs since it’s supposed to be in the 30s tonight.

Ronnie put out shavings for the goats, sheep, and Mattie for the weather coming in.

The donkeys came into the barn this evening knowing it’s going to get cold. They are smart.

I also added hay to the barn cats crates so they can stay warmer.
We needed to get prepared today for the animals.

The temps are already dropping.

It does not matter how rough my day was, when I get home and see and hear those sheep, it makes it all better. Today they saw me and they were frolicking and making all kinds of noise. They are always happy.

Jelly was sticking close to Yeller today. Those two are such good friends.

The pigs were sure cute. Gus still tries to climb the fence for food. I’m glad he cannot actually do that. That would be something else all together.

You can feel the weather changing in the air. You can see it in the clouds, too.

Looks like the horses are growing in their winter hair. And not a minute too soon. The winter weather is coming this weekend. It won’t last but a couple of days but still, I’m glad to see they will be prepared for the winter.

You never know where Jelly will show up. He was hiding, not so well I might add, in the weeds.

Chloe usually hangs out in the horse pasture these days. I did see her today hanging around. She is one brave chicken. I caught a picture of her mid flight.

Mattie sure was throwing a fit tonight with not getting his food first. He is such a brat, but is so loved.
